I am passive fishing right now!
That is correct my friend I am writing this very Post sitting on the ice of my favorite lake, while my nephew does laps around my icehouse with a snowmobile, fish drives will be discussed in a future chapter. Am I catching fish you ask well not at the mom.......ent, sorry had to set the hook. But the bucket is filling itself. My family is here, and everyone is catching fish. How? You ask because all of them have adapted the passive fishing mindset. How did passive fishing come about? Great question! Here comes my first story. I grew up on Bowstring Lake in northern Minnesota. My family ran Geiger's Trails End Resort, a beautiful place I might add, on a great fishery. Anyhow running the resort with my family, wow I must have been fishing every day! Wrong! Most of my fishing was done vicariously through the guests at the resort from a map on the wall in the lodge. My family and I did most of our fishing in the winter. So fast forward a few years till my passive fishing adventures began. My father, brother, and I made a trip to Lake of the Woods. We stayed at a resort, which was a pleasant change of pace. The guides did their best to put us on the fish. We immediately started catching fish. Then I realized I was passive fishing. I was paying the least amount of attention, drinking a few beers, playing on the phone, BS’ing and enjoying my time with my dad and brother. But man was I catching fish! I was just slaying ‘em, and it was entirely for lack of effort. They asked the typical questions, “What are using?” “How far off the bottom are you?” “What color? To be honest I had no idea, so I told them it was about the mentality, Passive Fishing, and so it was born. “You are trying too hard,” I said, have a beer, take a nap, take in the scenery and you too will catch fish! Catch fish they did my brother would fain a nap and stop jigging and low and behold, Walleye! My Dad stopped digging through his tackle, and tying lines and wham, Walleye! “I am telling you guys this is the ticket!” I exclaimed. We had a blast, but never stopped talking about our new technique.
